The much anticipated Women’s Center funded by Utah Haiti Relief is almost complete. A team of Utahns from Utah Haiti Relief will be traveling to Haiti at the end of April to complete the project and prepare it for the Women that will call this center home.
The Women’s Center was build on the property next to the Creche Enfante Jesus in La Mardelle Haiti. The Women’s Center was originally the vision of the head of the Creche, Gina and Lucien Duncan. with the intention of helping Women who have lost their Husbands in the earthquake. “It’s all about education. Them valuing themselves as women and then work towards things like building businesses and teaching them how to manage them,” Said Gina Duncan.
This center allows for physical, emotional and social help as well as provides them with the ability to maintain care of their children. Many of these women were injured by the earthquake and are struggling to take care of their children. This center will build confidence and provide the necessary support to allow these women to get back into shape. “60% of this model village is done, this is something we can finish up and take to the rest of the country as a model, said Jeremy Wardel of Utah Haiti Relief. “We all feel is, every single one of us and that’s why we are here.”
Additional funds are needed to finish the Women’s Center and donations can be accepted at www.utahhaitirelief.org. 100% of all donations go directly to Haiti to fund projects such as the Women’s Center and to provide food, education and support to the people.

Hey All,
Thanks for your continued support of the Utah Haiti Relief efforts and of the Haitian people. We apologize for not keeping the blog up to date when our efforts and desire is increasing. By now, the national media has sort of forgotten the Haiti earthquake when the needs of the country are stronger than ever. We have discovered a model village over the past couple of months and are working to duplicate that vision all over Haiti with the help of our friends at the Creche Enfante Jesus. These guys do it right.
Over the past 2 months, we have been working to finish the womens center that will house over 100 widows and their children and help them get back on their feet. More an more children are entering the orphanages and we are helping supply them with much needed supplies. We have kept true to our promise of having all Utah Haiti Relief funds go directly to Haiti and will be used to supply the people with food, to create much needed projects like the women’s center and more.
Donations have been a blessing but much more is needed. Because there is so much need, to date most of the funding has come from the volunteers of Utah Haiti Relief so much more is still needed.
We appreciate your support! The group is planning on returning to Haiti at the end of April to finish the Women’s Center and continue the relief efforts. More pictures and more stories to come! We will do our best to keep the blog updated through this next trip.
In addition, keep your eye on KSL TV because their crew covered our last trip to Haiti and are soon to release a story on what your funds have been doing and the results that have been produced.
Thanks for your support!

February 11, 2010.
Utah Haiti Relief headed back to Haiti for a return trip in order to continue relief efforts. This trip was an amazing trip and much was accomplished. We began doing food drops, medial missions and assisting orphanages throughout the country the very second we landed on the ground. One of our major missions was to start building a woman’s center that will house 100 women and their children.
This woman’s center is specifically designed to give assistance to women injured in the earthquake and are no longer to physically care for their children. These are widowed or single mother’s with children. This way, the mothers can stay with their children at this center while they are being trained on how to cope with their new disability. We need your help and assistance with donations to complete the center scheduled for completion by the end of March!
We inserted a medical team to Jerico high in the mountains to care for some critical children. One of the girls had some deep flesh wounds infested with maggots. We were able to get here medical care. This community was in pretty bad shape so the helicopter was flown back to the Port Au Prince airport where we gathered all of our clothing to give to this community.
As our team returned, all of them walked off the helicopter with the just shirt on their backs and bare feet! It was touching to see the level of sacrifice of our team! Thank you, everyone!
The mission was a success. We moved thousands of pounds of food, feed children, started the women’s center, created plans for building communities and flew medical missions!
Keep those donations coming, you are making a difference! Remember we are not using these funds to fly airplanes or helicopters, those are donated privately. We are using ALL of the money for food and relief for the Haitian people! All are volunteers so your money is getting to the right place!

After a meeting yesterday with the group, long term plans have been set in place for Haiti. First, we want to thank all those who have supported in donations and in thoughts and prayers. Without those donations, we are limited in our ability to truly help the people of Haiti. Hundreds of lives have been saved due to the heroic acts of these men and women! Hundreds more will be saved thanks to you.
As for the long-term plans. Base camp has been moved to a property given to us by the Creche Enfante Jesus in La Mardelle Haiti (about 19 miles outside Port Au Prince). We left supplies and equipment there. We are going back in 1-2 weeks to finish setting up base camp, re-supply areas with food and water, help with the over 200 orphans set to arrive at the orphanage with medical supplies/food, and start re-building homes starting in leogone, the hardest hit area in Haiti. We have received many requests of those who want to help and we will get back to as soon as we can. Most of us were in Haiti so it has been tough to respond, now that we are in the US, it will be much easier to organize and make things happen. Coming from one who spent a week in Haiti, your help is much needed!

Most of our group is back home in Utah with their families although it won’t last very long. Long-term plans are in the works to help re-build the country and continue to help with relief efforts. Base camp was moved from the baseball field in Jemani DR to La Mardelle Haiti where we were given land on the property of an orphanage. From there, we will deliver supplies and help provide medical care to children who have lost their parents in the quake. We will let you all know soon what you can do to help.

We have received numerous comments and questions on our blog and through email. Thank you for all of the support. We are doing our best to reply to your inquiries.
The number one question that is being asked is, “How can someone adopt a child from Haiti?” To those asking we encourage you to contact your local or state adoption agencies to inquire about the process. Utah Haiti Relief’s focus has been to help the people of Haiti. The team has been doing this by distributing supplies, food, and water and also by transporting many people to safe locations. Our team has also been fortunate to assist orphans who were awaiting adoption prior to the earthquake. Utah Haiti Relief provided transportation for these children from orphanages to be united with their new families.
Thank you for your financial contributions and moral support! By doing this you are helping make an incredible impact for many people in Haiti. Please encourage your friends and famliy to get involved and support this effort.

Salt Lake City news outlets covered the arrival of Jeremy Wardle and his daughter Gabrielle in Utah Saturday as they were greeted by the rest of their family. Early Saturday morning the Utah Haiti Relief team helped bring another 80 orphans to Fort Lauderdale, FL to meet their new families. Below are some links that tell these stories.
